Beavers Fall to Wildcats in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State volleyball team fell to the Arizona Wildcats in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 20-25) on Sunday afternoon in McKale Center. Following the loss, the Beavers drop to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-12, while Arizona improves to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-12.
 
Freshman Kateryna Tkachenko led both teams offensively with 15 kills, just two shy of tying her career-high of 17 set earlier this season. This is the second-straight match and fifth this season that the Lubny, Ukraine native has led OSU offensively. Tkachenko also tallied one block assist and two digs throughout the match. Junior Lindsey Schell and senior Maddie Goings followed with six kills each. Schell recorded three blocks and two digs, while Goings had one block and three digs.
 
Other key contributors for the Beavers included freshman Ryan White setting a career-high 15 digs to lead the Beavers. Izzi Szulczewski recorded her sixth double-double of the 2021 season posting 27 assists and 10 digs against the Wildcats. Szulczewski was also the lone Beaver to record a solo block finishing with two to tie her career-high for a single match.
 
Arizona finished with two players with double-digit kills, Jaelyn Hodge (13) and Sofia Moldonado Diaz (11). As a team, the Wildcats hit .221 and finished with 49 digs.
 
Match Notes

  • Eight different Beavers recorded at least one dig throughout the three sets.
  • Ellier Turner and DiLara Unal both recorded service aces for the Beavers.
  • Szulczewski has six double-doubles this season and 16 on her career following her 27 assists and 10 dig performance.
  • Oregon State finished with seven total blocks, led by Schell and Szulczewski each finishing with three.

Oregon State is back in action next Friday, Oct. 1 at No. 15 Utah at 6 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks. Weekend action will continue as the Beavers travel to No. 24 Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 3 for an 11 a.m. matchup.
