Washington to Host DP Open Night on October 22nd

Sep 27, 2021

With October being Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Month, the Washington men's soccer team has partnered with the DP Open to raise awareness for sudden cardiac awareness at the Huskies' match on October 22nd against Oregon State at 5:00 p.m..

In December of 2015, Washington soccer alum Daniel Phelps passed away at the age of 27 after suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest. Daniel was known as a social connector by his friends and his memory lives on each year through the DP Open.

The DP Open is an annual charity golf outing started by Daniel's college teammates, with proceeds donated to the Nick of Time Foundation to help provide heart screenings for young people and to their Soccership program to make soccer more affordable for local families.

The match will feature numerous promotions centered around raising awareness for sudden cardiac arrest. Fans will be able to learn how to administer CPR and use an AED under the marketing tent prior to kickoff, at half-time and after the game. There will also be special giveaways and more information and materials on how you can best prepare yourself to help in an event of SCA.
