BERKELEY, Calif. – The Utah women's tennis team concluded a successful trip to the Cal Fall Invite on Sunday afternoon as they had two players in the semifinals of their draws.
Linda Huang was looking to advance to the finals of the Blue Draw and would take on Tamara Arnold of San Diego State in the semifinals. After two tough matches to get to this point, Huang would fall short to Arnold in the semifinals.
Matching up against the 8th-seed in the Gold Draw, Anastasia Goncharova had a tough matchup. She dropped set one, 6-2. Goncharova answered back, taking set two, 6-2, forcing a third set. The third set was a highly contested set that went both ways, but Goncharova came up just short, losing 7-5.
Goncharova and Huang matched up with Best Lee and Paige Alter of Sacramento State in the Consolation Draw in doubles action. The Utah duo came out on top, winning 8-4 for their second doubles win of the tournament.
The Utes return to action on Friday, Oct. 1, for the first day of the Utah Invitational.
