ZZU Mania is Back, Set for Oct. 15

Sep 27, 2021

Back and ready for basketball season to tip off the Cougars alongside of the ZZU Crew are set to once again host ZZU Mania, a free fan event open to students and the general public, Friday, Oct. 15 to begin Family Weekend. The introductory extravaganza will be held at Bohler Gym with doors opening at 6 p.m., one hour before the mania begins.

Both the Cougar Men's and Women's teams will make their debut at the event and will participate in a fun-filled night of competition. The night kicks off for the Cougs with a Skills Challenge that will feature squads made up of players from both the men's and women's teams going through the gauntlet in a race to cross the finish line first. Breaking off on their own, the women's team will compete in a three-point shootout as the best of the best from downtown vie for the crown. The night culminates with the men's dunk contest as the Cougs' high-flyers rattle the rim in search of bragging rights to hold above them all.

In addition to the team contests the night will be filled with performances from the Cougar Pep Band as well as the Crimson Girls. In between, fans will get their chance to win an array of prizes with a Half-court Shot, a Progressive Shot Challenge, and everyone's favorite, a game of Knockout. The ultimate prize for one lucky fan will be the chance to be one of five honorary judges for the dunk contest to close out the festivities.

The season begins in full Nov. 9 with a double-header at Beasley Coliseum. The Coug men will host Alcorn State followed by the women taking on San Jose State. Tickets are on sale for the 2021-22 men's and women's basketball seasons.
