Wildcats Put Up Strong Performances on Day One

WACO, Texas - In their first tournament as Wildcats, three newcomers made their mark on the opening day of the Baylor invite. The Wildcats wrapped up the first day with four singles wins and a doubles win, with three singles games being won by newcomers.

Freshman Mary Grace Armistead had an impressive debut with a straight-set victory over Texas A&M's Kayal Gownder before picking up a doubles win with partner Kirsten Prelle over a pair from Baylor. Prelle also came away with a dominant straight set victory against Baylor's Olivia Malm.

Graduate transfer Salma Ziouti fought in a tough three-set match that all ended with tiebreakers before coming out with a victory in her first singles match as a Wildcat. Freshman Belen Nevenhoven added the final singles win to the total with a swift straight set victory.

The Wildcats will kick off the second day at 7 a.m. MST with doubles before moving into singles.
