Another Close Win

Oct 2, 2021

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford notched its second close victory against UC Santa Barbara in as many weeks, taking down the No. 5 Gauchos on the road, 10-9.

The Cardinal improves to 13-2 with the win and is set for an MPSF showdown in LA next weekend vs. No. 3 UCLA.

UCSB scored the game's first goal, but Stanford responded with stingy defense and efficient offense, scoring four straight for a 4-1 lead. Larsen Weigle tied the game for the Cardinal, followed by scores from Beck Jurasius, AJ Rossman and Soren Jensen.

The Gauchos took the challenge and used a dynamic final two minutes of the second period to knot the game at 4-4 at the half.

Stanford's third period was its strongest of the afternoon, powered by the duo of Quinn Woodhead and Tyler Abramson. The duo combined to score all six of Stanford's goals in the final two periods as the Cardinal never relinquished its lead.

A bullet from Abramson just before the final period pushed Stanford's lead to 9-6, its largest of the second half. UCSB mounted a late comeback, but Stanford's defense held strong late, knocking down a final attempt at overtime.

Nolan Krutonog made seven saves in the win.

Tyler Abramson moved to ninth-place all-time at Stanford with 185 career goals.
