Cal Loses At Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – California men's soccer suffered a 5-0 defeat at Stanford on Sunday evening in the first game of the Big Clasico this season.
 
The Golden Bears' record fell to 2-6-1 (0-3-0 in the Pac-12), while the Cardinal improved to 4-4-1 (1-2-0 Pac-12) after the conference clash at Cagan Stadium.
 
Mark Fisher scored the gamewinner for Stanford in the third minute. The Cardinal's Will Richmond posted two goals and two assists, and Ousseni Bouda also collected two goals and two assists.
 
Cal's best chance to score came in the 73rd minute, when the Bears were awarded a penalty kick. But forward Nate Carrasco's shot was saved by Stanford goalkeeper Matt Frank.
 
The rivals will play again in the regular-season finale on Nov. 11 at Edwards Stadium.
 
The Bears continue Pac-12 play when they host Oregon State on Thursday at 2 p.m. and then host No. 2 Washington on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 12 p.m. Both games will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
