Women's Tennis Concludes Utah Invite With Six Wins
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's tennis team finished off the weekend at the Utah Invite by winning six of their nine matches on day three.
"I am happy with these first few weekends of competition for our team," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "To start the way Linda and Anastasia did at Cal and to now have a solid weekend on our home courts is a very positive way to start the fall. Emily has put in a lot of work to get back to the level she is at now, and I am very pleased with her weekend. Samantha also had an impressive first tournament as a Ute, and I am excited to see how she continues to develop her game. Madison has come a long way in coming back, and this weekend was such a great step forward for her. Overall, I thought it was a great weekend for all of us as we continue to get back in the swing of things, and we will look forward to getting back on the courts and continuing our preparations."
Emily Dush ended her weekend being undefeated throughout all three days of the competition. On Sunday, she won her singles match against New Mexico's Yue Lin "Polly" Chen, 6-1, 6-3, and her doubles match, along with partner Madison Tattini, 8-4.
Along with Dush, Lindsay Hung, Samantha Horwood, and Anya Lamoreaux were able to win their singles matches against the New Mexico Lobos. Hung defeated opponent Myu Kageyama 6-1, 6-4. Horwood took on Lobos player Hsiang-Wen "Albie" Huang and won sets 6-2.
Lamoreaux battled it out against Sarah O'Connor. She lost her first set but made a huge comeback, winning the following two sets 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, the Utes were able to win two of their three matches. Katya Hersh and Hung won against Aggies doubles team Lisa Kung/Brooke Demerath. They won their match 8-3.
Next up, on Oct. 4, Utah will be sending Madeline Lamoreaux to the ITA All-American in Charleston, South Carolina, participating in the qualifying draw.
