BERKELEY, Calif. – The Cal women's basketball team is participating in the second annual Race for Change. The 5K walk/run will take place on Saturday, October 16 at 4:00 p.m. PT at Lake Merritt. Created by the UC San Diego basketball programs as a way to address racial equality across the country, each program that joins chooses its own initiative centered around racial equality to fundraise for.
Last year, the Bears raised $8300 for Cal Athletics' Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion & Belonging department. This year our goal is to raise $9500 for the DEIB office. The department, led by Dr. Ty-Ron Douglas is responsible for the development, implementing, and administering diversity, equal employment opportunity, and affirmative action efforts in order to comply with government legislation and management directives and support equity and inclusion programs.
If you wish to donate to the fundraiser please click here and select AD Excellence Fund. Every dollar helps and goes towards Cal Athletics' efforts in creating an inclusive department for student-athletes and staff. We will be accepting donations thru Monday, October 18.
Join the team on the 5k walk/run or virtually in your own communities and be a part of the change! Be sure to tag @CalWBBall and use the hashtag #RaceForChance.
