Freshman Gavin Aurilia Paces USC Men's Golf In Colonial Collegiate First Two Rounds
Freshman Gavin Aurilia fired a first-round 70 and sophomore Shane Ffrench carded a second-round 72 to lead the USC men's golf team during a 36-hole first day of the Colonial Collegiate at the Colonial C.C. in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday (Oct. 4).
USC posted a combined 26-over 586 in the top-heavy, 15-team field, and will start the final round in 13th and in the hunt for a top 10 finish. Defending national champion Pepperdine took the two-round lead at 1-over 561.
Aurilia, whose best finish in two starts is a tie for 34th, is in a tie for 21st at 3-over 143 (70-73).
Fellow freshman Jackson Rivera, who has led USC in its previous two tournaments, is tied for 41st at 7-over 147 (72-75) while senior Cameron Henry is tied for 55th at 9-over 149 (74-75) in his first start this season.
Ffrench shook off a tough first round and followed with a solid second round inching up to a tie for 62nd at 10-over 150 (78-72). His second round featured a 1-under between 10 and 18.
Senior transfer Jack Boulger is tied for 69th at 13-over 153 (75-78).
USC will tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT in the final round Tuesday.
