SEATTLE – Fourth-year Husky middle blocker Marin Grote earned the second Pac-12 weekly honor of her career today, as she was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following UW's wins over UCLA and USC. Grote racked up 15 blocks over the weekend.
Washington earned its first two Pac-12 wins last week, coming back from an 0-2 deficit against then-No. 15 UCLA to win, 3-2, on Friday night, and then beating USC in four sets on Sunday.
Against the Bruins, Grote tied her career-high with 10 blocks, and added 10 kills for a double-double. She had five more blocks against the Trojans along with six kills.
For the week, the Huskies outblocked the L.A. schools by a combined 28.0 to 15.0.
It's the first Defensive Player of the Week for Grote, who also won Offensive Player of the Week on March 2 of last season. Grote currently ranks 10th in the Pac-12 in blocks per set at 1.06 and she is also fourth in attack percentage at .402.
The Dawgs, ranked 11th this week, will head to the desert to face Arizona and Arizona State this Friday and Sunday.
