Huskies Get Two Ranked Wins On Day One At All-Americans

Oct 4, 2021

TULSA, Okla. -- The 2021 fall tennis season kicked off for the Huskies at the ITA All-American Championships with ranked wins for Ewen Lumsden in singles and the doubles team of Clement Chidekh and Jack Davis. Both took place in the qualifying draws of the first national tournament of the season, hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Lumsden got his season off to an impressive start with a victory over USC's Bradley Frye, ranked No. 107 in the preseason ITA singles poll. Lumsden was able to get the win in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. He will play next on Tuesday at 8 a.m. Central time against Harris Walker of Harvard, and would then need one more win after that to advance to the main draw.

Davis and Chidekh earned a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4 (10-8) win in their first qualifying match against 34th-ranked and third-seeded Capalbo/Busleiman of Utah. The Huskies were unable to keep the run going, however, as they fell in their second match of the day, 6-1, 6-2, to Hassey/Smith of Arizona.

Chidekh is automatically entered into the main draw in singles, which is set to begin on Wednesday.
