Bruins in Second Place Heading into Final Round at the Blessings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UCLA women's golf team shot a 3-over 291 in round two of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The Bruins were knocked down to second place after course host Arkansas surged into first with a 14-under 274. To par, UCLA is 4-over 580 and is 11 strokes back of the Razorbacks.
Freshman Alessia Nobilio followed up her 3-under 69 in round one with an even-par 72 today. Heading into the 15th, Nobilio was 3-over with four holes to play. She proceeded to birdie three times on the par-4 11th, par-5 15th, par-3 17th and par-4 18th. Nobilio fell to second place and trails by three strokes on the individual leaderboard after Arkansas' Brook Matthews shot a 6-under 66.
Two other Razorbacks, Miriam Ayora and Cory Lopez, shot scores of 4-under 68 and 3-under 69 to jump four and two spots into tied for third place.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Akabane shot an even-par 72 to remain tied for 8th place. Akabane birdied on the par-5 fifth, par-4 sixth and par-5 15th. Joining Akabane is junior Emma Spitz who finished day 2-over 74 in 8th place. She birdied four times on the back nine – five total in the round – but double bogeyed twice.
Freshman Zoe Antoinette Campos sunk one birdie on the par-5 15th, but picked up five extra strokes on the back nine to end her round 5-over 77. Freshman Caroline Canales birdied twice on the par-4 4th and par-4 16th to only go up one stroke in her total score for the tournament (+11, 155).
UCLA tees off for the final round on the Blessings Golf Club at 6:45 a.m. PT. The contest will be available for viewing on the Golf Channel at 12 p.m. PT.
