Cats Shine in Doubles During Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. - In the 2021 ITA All-American Tournament, the Arizona Wildcats earned several statement wins in the main draw of the doubles tournament before entering the main draw of singles, with the duo of Filip Malbasic and Herman Hoeyeraal making the quarterfinals in doubles. 

After the first day of qualifying, where three Wildcats earned singles wins to advance, the remaining Wildcats fell in the next round to tough competition in three-set battles. Arizona rebounded well in the doubles portion of the tournament, with both pairs making the round of 16. The pair of Carlos Hassey and Colton Smith won their first two matches before pushing the  No. 57 doubles pair Siimar/Shelbayh to three sets before falling.

Malbasic and Hoeyeraal advanced through the first round by the opponent defaulting before facing off against the No. 35 doubles pair from VCU, Stable and Torre Martin. The duo fought hard and won a three-set battle to move on to the next round and win their second match of the tournament. The two will face off against No. 57 Siimar and Shelbayh in the quarterfinals for a chance at the semifinals.
