Arizona Soccer Defeated in Eugene

Oct 7, 2021

EUGENE, Ariz -- The Arizona Wildcats (3-8-0, 0-4-0) were shut out by the Oregon Ducks (7-1-4, 2-1-1) on Thursday night. The 1-0 final came by way of an early Oregon goal in the third minute.

The two teams finished the match on a fairly equal playing field both offensively and defensively. The Cats were only out shot by one, finishing with a shot ratio of 7-8 and an on goal ratio of 2-4. Keeper Hope Hisey was able to pick up three saves putting her at 70 on the season. Hisey still leads the Pac-12 in saves by 13.

Redshirt senior Jill Aguilera was the offensive leader of the night, taking just under half of Arizona's shots. Freshman Gianna Christiansen, sophomores Quincy Bonds and Megan Chelf and junior Madison Goerlinger all took one shot each with Bonds' being on goal. Mariah Dunn and Jenna Studer picked up considerable defensive minutes, seeing all 90 minutes of the match from the back line.

In the end the Cats were unable to tip the match in their favor. However, the Arizona defense was successful in keeping the Ducks from increasing their lead, pushing hard to spoil any further attempts at the goal.
