Despite Power Play Success, Hockey Falls Short at #12 Denver

DENVER, Colo. -- Despite a hot start and three power play goals, Sun Devil Hockey falls to No. 12 Denver, 8-3, on Friday night at Magness Arena. The two will meet for a rematch on Saturday night starting at 5 p.m. MST. 

Johnny Walker wasted a mere 90 seconds before scoring in Friday night's game. The Sun Devils scored on the power play - their sixth power play goal in seven periods of play.


The man-advantage would continue to work for the Sun Devils who finished the night with three power play goals from Walker, Colin Theisen, and Matthew Kopperud to finish 3-4 on the power play. 

ASU blocked 24 shots while Cole Brady made 31 saves through 34 minutes of play. Ben Kraws entered the game in the second period and finished the game with 16 saves. 

The Sun Devils killed two consecutive DU power plays in the first and would go on to kill five of DU's seven power play opportunities. 

Colin Theisen got in on the action, scoring ASU's second power play goal at 9:22 in the second. 

Kopperud scored the team's third power play goal of the night with only 16 seconds left in regulation. The Denver native is on a three-game scoring streak while teammate Doan is has collected at least a point in all three games this season.
 

The rematch is set for Saturday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. MST.
