Huskies Sweep Singles Matches In Fall Opener

SEATTLE -- Eight singles matches produced eight wins for the Husky women's tennis team in their first home action this fall at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Hosting the Husky Invitational, Washington had six wins against DePaul and two more against Portland State in a hidden dual format.

Seven Huskies played their 2021-22 season openers today, including a UW debut for transfer Hikaru Sato and a collegiate debut for freshman Kelly Leung. All were put in the win column today. Over the next two days, the Huskies will continue mixing and matching singles and doubles competition with DePaul, Portland State, Oregon, and Washington State. Saturday's action starts at 9:30 with the Huskies playing Oregon in singles.

In singles play against DePaul out of the Big East, the Huskies got straight-set wins from returners Nika Zupancic, Ashley Chang, Tara Chilton, Sarah-Maude Fortin, and Zoey Weil. Sato, a transfer from Washington State with two years to play, shook off a tiebreak loss in set two for a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 win in her first match in purple. Kelly Leung and Yolanda Lin had straight-set wins against Portland State opponents.

In doubles, the Huskies were 2-1 against the Cougars, and 1-2 against the Ducks, plus two wins for Leung/Chang against the Vikings.
