Strong Doubles Play Highlights First Day of Fall Action

SEATTLE – Oregon opened its fall season by turning in a strong day of doubles play to begin the Husky Invitational on Friday. The Ducks combined to go 6-2 in pairs play in the morning before closing with four victories in five matches of singles play over conference opponent Washington State.
 
How it Happened: Ares Teixido Garcia and freshman Sophie Luescher started the day with a dominant 6-0 win over a pair from DePaul, before Lillian Mould and Allison Mulville added a 6-4 win as Oregon took two of three matches from the Blue Demons. The Ducks also picked up a pair of 6-3 doubles victories over Portland State to cap off the early wave of matches.
 
Teixido Garcia and Myah Petchey continued the strong morning of pairs play with a 6-0 win over a pair from Washington, while Misaki Kobayashi and Uxia Martinez Moral turned in another dominant effort with a 6-1 win over another Husky pair.
 
The Ducks moved on to singles play in the afternoon, taking four of five singles matches against Washington State. Petchey delivered a 6-2, 6-2 win for the first victory of the afternoon before Luescher followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win to cap off her first day of collegiate action. Oregon's two other singles winners went the distance in their matches, as Teixido Garcia finished her perfect day with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win while Mould took a back-and-forth match, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6(3).
