TULSA, Okla. – Junior Clement Chidekh saw his run at the ITA All-American Championships come to an end in the semifinals this morning at Tulsa's Michael Case Tennis Center. The first Husky to make the semifinals of the tournament since 2003, Chidekh beat four ranked players in three days in his first collegiate tourney, but he fell in straight sets today to Florida's Ben Shelton.
Chidekh, ranked 72nd but sure to climb higher when the rankings are updated after the fall, was unable to stop Shelton's momentum once the Gator gained an edge in the first set, as 86th-ranked Shelton won, 6-3, 6-0, and has yet to drop a set in his five wins to the final.
Chidekh became the third Husky to make the semifinals at the season's first major, joining Alex Vlaski (2003 Champion; 2002 Semifinalist) and Robert Kendrick (1998 Semifinalist).
The Huskies will have their full roster in action for the first time next week, starting Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Oregon.
