SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – California men's tennis moved one Golden Bear into a main draw final, while a Cal duo captured a consolation doubles title on Saturday at the UCSB Classic.
In the C Flight Consolation Doubles Final, Cal freshmen Alex Chang and Michael Wright defeated Cal Poly's Alexis Delisle and Ben Keyser, 8-5, at the Harder Stadium Courts.
Meanwhile in B Flight Singles, Cal sophomore Noah Gampel beat New Mexico's Arda Azkara, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, in the quarterfinals and BYU's Mateo Vereau, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals at the Gauchos' Rec Center Courts. Gampel faces UCSB's Gianluca Brunkow in Sunday's final.
In C Flight Singles, Cal sophomore Lucas Magnaudet won his quarterfinal against Cal Poly's Delisle, 7-6, 6-3, but fell to New Mexico's Nico Prieto, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, in the semis. Magnaudet takes on Boris Reckow of Saint Mary's in Sunday's third-place match.
In the consolation quarterfinals of C Flight Singles, Wright lost to San Francisco's David Woodland, 6-0, 6-2.
The UCSB Classic ends Sunday.
