WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – On a rainy morning in New Jersey, Stanford field hockey fell to Monmouth, 3-1, at So Sweet A Cat Field. Stanford drops to 3-5 this season, and 2-3 in America East play, while Monmouth improves to 7-5 (2-2 AE).
Lily Croddick supplied the Cardinal with her first goal of the campaign, while six different athletes were credited shots. Cara Sambeth continued her production with two defensive saves, while Molly Redgrove had one.
The Hawks struck first with a goal in the ninth minute, tapping home a pass on the goal line, but Stanford responded just over 10 minutes later off the stick of Croddick. The redshirt junior weaved her way through the defense, before wrapping around the cage and finishing across the line. The goal was the sixth of her career.
Monmouth responded right before the break with a penalty stroke, and took a 3-1 lead in the third quarter off a corner.
Stanford returns to action Oct. 22 against California. The second meeting between the teams this year, and the first in America East play, will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
