Last Time: Bears Wrap Up UCSB Classic
Cal closed the UCSB Classic on Sunday, when Cal freshmen Michael Wright and Alex Chang defeated the host Gauchos' Diego Castillo and Josh Williams, 8-3, a day after the young Bears captured the C Flight Doubles Consolation title in Santa Barbara.
Noah Gampel played for a title on Sunday, but the Cal sophomore fell to UCSB's Gianluca Brunkow, 6-3, 6-3, in the B Flight Singles Final. In the C Flight Third-Place Match on Sunday, Cal sophomore Lucas Magnaudet won in a walkover against Boris Reckow of Saint Mary's. Last Time At The ITA NW Regional Championships
In 2019, Yuta Kikuchi closed a successful ITA Northwest Regional Championships for Cal men's tennis with a run to the singles final, with the top-seeded and 75th-ranked Golden Bear falling to ninth-seeded Damon Kesaris of Saint Mary's, 7-6(2), 6-0. Cal still collected some hardware at the Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center, as the Bears earned the trophy for posting the most wins at the regional, and Kikuchi, as one of the singles finalists, qualified for the upcoming Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
Kikuchi's final came one day after teammates Ben Draper and Bjorn Hoffmann finished as the doubles runners-up at the regional.
Next Time
Yuta Kikuchi, Philip Hjorth and any other Bears who qualify will compete in the ITA Super Regional Championships from Oct. 22-25 in Seattle.
