News and Notes Around #Pac12MBB Media Day Wednesday

Kimani Lawrence, Marcus Bagley and Bobby Hurley will be attending #Pac12MBB Media Day Wednesday at the Pac-12 Network studios in San Francisco. Here are some notes and things to know.

FREE BASKETBALL NOV. 1
The Sun Devils will play an exhibition game in the evening on Monday, Nov. 1 (time TBD) against the University of Saint Katherine.

 

WELCOME BACK KIMANI!
Fifth-year senior Kimani Lawrence returns for the extra NCAA provided due to COVID. He finished last year strong, becoming just the ninth Pac-12 player to notch 20 points and 20 rebounds in a Pac-12 game when he posted 21/20 against Washington on Feb. 25, 2021. Only four Pac-10 players have done it in the past 16 years. You will have to click here to see who they are.

TOUGH SCHEDULE AS ALWAYS
Bobby Hurley's squad has another tough schedule and it has resulted in some big wins out of conference. In his six seasons, he has five out of conference wins vs. ranked opponents. In the previous 37 seasons ASU had six. Here is a breakdown of all the games.

 

MEET OUR GRADUATE TRANSFER MARREON JACKSON
Simply put, Marreon Jackson got buckets at Toledo and will have one year to play at ASU after leading Toledo to a 21-9 mark last year. The 2020-21 MAC Player of the Year averaged 18.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game and shot .348 from the three-point stripe and over 90 percent from the free throw line. As a junior in 2019-20, he averaged 19.8 points, 5.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds on his way to second-team All-MAC honors. The Cleveland native starred at Garfield Heights High School.

 

OOC ON THE ROAD
The Sun Devil non-conference schedule includes road trips to two places where it is tough to play but Coach Hurley's squads have won there already -- San Diego State (Nov. 18) and Creighton (Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. CT on FS1). ASU is 8-2 in non-conference road games under Coach Hurley, as it was 8-22 in its previous 30 OOC road tilts. Both San Diego State and Creighton made the 2021 NCAA Tournament with Creighton falling to Gonzaga in the Sweet Sixteen. SDSU enters 2021-22 having won an average of 24.8 games the last 16 seasons (including nine NCAA Tournaments that would have been nine in 2019-20) and has won the Mountain West Championship regular season title five of the past eight years.
