Matsushita and Vandecasteele Advance in ITA Northwest Regional

EUGENE, Ore. – The men's tennis team got underway in singles play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Wednesday, as Ryoma Matsushita and Luke Vandecasteele each advanced to the third round of the tournament.
Nima Movassaghi picked up a first round win, defeating Juan Pablo Jaramillo (Seattle) in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Avi Shugar also advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 7-6(5) win over Michael Frank (Seattle).
Matsushita advanced to the third round after defeating Oliver Richards (Portland State) 6-0, 6-1. Vandecasteele joined his teammate with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win against Filip Stipic (Seattle).
Doubles play is set to begin on Thursday, with Matsushita and Vandecasteele teaming up for the Ducks. The ITA Northwest Regional draw will be updated with matchups and results throughout the competition.  Champions and finalists in the main draw advance to the ITA National Fall Championships (Nov. 4-7) in Seattle.
