Women’s Tennis Opens Play at ITA Regionals

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – The Utah women's tennis team opened up play on Wednesday at the ITA Mountain Regionals hosted by UNLV. The Utes picked up seven wins on the day, including going a perfect 3-0 in doubles action in the main draw. 
 
Starting the day with doubles, Utah had a strong showing as all Utah doubles teams that were in action won. Lindsay Hung and Samantha Horwood opened the day for the Utes with an 8-2 win over Alexandra Hildreth and Ya-Chi Hsu of Dixie State. Linda Huang and Anastasia Goncharova followed with a win of their own over Ava Neyestani and Sofia Markova of Northern Arizona. The Utah duo won 8-3. Madeline Lamoreaux and Katya Hersh followed with an 8-5 win over Alex Kuo and Karina Chao of the Air Force. The only doubles team who did not play was Emily Dush and Madison Tattini, the 3rd-seeded team in the draw. They had a bye into the round of 32. 
 
In the singles main draw, Utah won three matches. The wins started with 3rd-seeded Linda Huang. Huang came away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lola O'Lideadha of Idaho State to advance to the round of 32. Seventh-seeded Madeline Lamoreaux came away with a three-set win. Lamoureaux dropped set one, 7-6, but she responded for a 6-4, 6-2 second and third set win to advance to the next round. 
 
The final win for the Utes in the main draw was Lindsay Hung. In the first round, Hung came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Harsha Challa of New Mexico State. 
 
Emily Dush had a tough battle in her first-round match against Noesja Brink of Wyoming. Dush won the first set 7-5 before dropping the second set 6-3. Needing to win the third set to win the match, Dush was in a battle before dropping it 7-6. Anastasia Goncharova was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Annaliese County, and Madison Tattini dropped her match to 10th-seeded Radka Buzkova of Colorado State, 6-2, 6-2. 
 
In the second flight of singles, Katya Hersh came away with a first-round win. Hersh faced off against Rachel Mellor of Dixie State and won 6-3, 7-6. 
 
Thursday will see a second round of doubles and two rounds of singles play, with action starting at 9:00 a.m. PT. The finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
