Huang Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Regional

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Linda Huang of the Utah Women's Tennis team shined on day two of the ITA Mountain Regional as she went 2-0 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singles Main Draw. 
 
Linda Huang, the 3rd-seeded player in the singles main, shinned for the Utes on the day. She opened up play in the Round of 32 with a win over Holly Steward of Boise State, 6-2, 6-3. Later in the day, Huang matched up with the 15th-seeded Britt Pursell of Denver with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Huang came out and dropped the first set 6-4. However, Huang responded in the second set with a 6-1 win. Going to a third and final set, Huang came away with another 6-1 win to advance in the singles draw. 
 
Utah's 7th-seeded layer Madeline Lamoreaux battled to advance to the Round of 16, but she fell short as she was defeated by Hailey Stelse of Air Force, 6-3, 6-4. Lindsay Hung battled her Round of 32 against 16th-seeded Sophie Zehender of Wyoming. However, Hung fell short, falling 7-5, 6-3. 
 
In the second flight of singles, Katya Hersh won her second match of the draw. She opened the day playing Serina Abriola of Wyoming. Hersh came away with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Hersh battled in the Round of 16 but was defeated in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, by Wing Ka Lin of BYU. 
 
Freshman Samantha Horwood also advanced to the Round of 16 in the second flight. Horwood, who had a bye in the First Round, dropped her first set of the tournament, 6-1, to Laura Dunlap. However, Horwood responded by winning the following two sets, 6-2, 6-3, and taking the match. 
 
The Utes were looking to advance to the Round of 16 in doubles as they had four teams looking to advance. However, Utah struggled in doubles as they dropped all four doubles matches of the day. Madeline Lamoreaux and Katya Hersh were in a battle with Radka Buzkova and Matea Mihlevic of Colorado State. The Ute's duo forced a tiebreaker but would fall short, losing 8-7 (4). 
 
Friday will see two rounds of doubles and another round of singles play, with action starting at 9:00 a.m. PT. The finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
