BERKELEY – California men's golf is back in action this weekend at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The Bears' final tournament of the fall runs from October 17-19 in Windermere, Florida.
The 14-team tournament will include the likes of Arizona State, Auburn, Augusta, North Florida, Coastal Carolina, Illinois, Florida, LSU, Minnesota, UCF, South Carolina, SMU and West Virginia. ASU (No. 2), Auburn (No. 21) and LSU (No. 23) all enter ranked in Golfweek's top-25 poll.
Here is how Cal's lineup will look:
1. Finigan Tilly
2. Tony Chen
3. Sampson Zheng
4. Aaron Du
5. Kyle Maspat
A notable return to the lineup is sophomore Aaron Du who will be making his first start of the season and his seventh overall with the Bears. Last season, Du competed in all six events and his freshman campaign culminated with a seventh-place finish at the 2021 Pac-12 Championship. His finish was the best of any Golden Bear in the tournament. Furthermore, his 73.32 stroke average last season was the lowest of any Cal player to compete in three or more tournaments.
The only player to return to the lineup who scored in the Bears' previous tournament is graduate student Finigan Tilly. Tilly was Cal's second-best finisher at the Hamptons Intercollegiate ten days ago, tying for 34th with 226 (+10) strokes. Freshman Tony Chen's best finish so far this fall was at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate where he tied for 52nd with an even score of 210 strokes. Sophomore Sampson Zheng will look to score in his third tournament of the fall at the Tavistock Collegiate. His best finish also came at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate where he tied for 58th (70, 69, 72 – 211, +1). This will be redshirt senior Kyle Maspat's first time in the lineup this fall. He has competed in five tournaments for the Bears during his career at Cal.
