Suko Advances To Semis At Regionals
EUGENE, Ore. -- Husky freshman Nedim Suko grabbed another victory in his first collegiate tournament today, moving into the semifinals of the ITA Fall Northwest Regionals, hosted by Oregon at its Student Tennis Center.
Suko, the Kirkland, Wash. product, is off to a 3-0 start on his Husky career, as he knocked off Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson, 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-4 for his second three-set win in a row. Suko will play another GU Bulldog, Arthus de la Bassetiere, in the semis.
Sophomore Han-Chih Lin dropped a three-setter in his quarterfinal today against Portland's Julien Penzlin. Penzlin won the first set, 6-4, before Lin countered with a 6-2 win in the second, but Penzlin prevailed, 6-1, in the third.
By reaching the quarterfinals, both Suko and Lin will advance on to the ITA Northwest Super Regionals next week, which Washington will host at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. They will join Clement Chidekh, Ewen Lumsden, and Jack Davis who were already pre-selected for the 32-player tournament.
Lin also teamed with freshman Rikuto Yamaguchi in doubles this week, but the pair lost in a third-set super-tiebreak today to Portland's Oberg/Brown, 2-6, 6-2, (10-4).
