Stanojevic Wins ITA Regionals Second Flight

LAS VEGAS – The Colorado women's tennis team freshman Mila Stanojevic captured the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Flight B Singles Tournament title here Saturday to conclude action at the ITA Mountain Regional Championship.
 
Stanojevic defeated Cindy Hu of host school UNLV in a three-set comeback in the semifinals. After getting swept in the first set 6-0, Stanojevic composed herself and took the second set 7-5 before capturing the win with a 6-4 third set victory. She was set to face Wing Ka Lin of BYU in the finals tomorrow but earns the title due to BYU athletes being unable to compete on Sundays.
 
The freshman celebrated her title with an added doubles match with partner Megan Forster. The duo took down a tandem from UNLV with ease 6-2, finishing the tournament with a 3-1 record as a pair.
 
The Buffs participated in four more added matches, two in singles and two in doubles. Antonia Balzert and Ky Ecton fell in a doubles match to a team from BYU 6-3, while Betina Tokac and Ellen Puzak dropped a match to a pair from Utah 6-4. Both Puzak and Balzert competed in singles matches as well, both dropping three set matches in very similar scores. Puzak fell to a player from BYU 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, while Balzert fell to an athlete from Wyoming 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
 
With the finished final for Stanojevic, the Buffs packed up and are back in Boulder after foregoing the final day of competition. Colorado concludes the fall season Nov. 5-7 at the FGCU Invite in Florida.
