Bears Tied for Eighth After Day One at Tavistock
WINDERMERE, Fla. – California men's golf opened the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Sunday at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. After 18 holes, the Bears are currently tied for eighth while senior Finigan Tilly is in sixth after shooting two under par (70).
Tilly opened Sunday's first round with three bogeys in his first seven holes, but quickly pulled back to even with three birdies in his front nine. After stringing together six pars, the San Carlos, Calif. native collected two more birdies in his final three holes to finish two under. Both freshman Tony Chen and sophomore Sampson Zheng are one stroke behind Tilly, finishing Sunday's round with 71 (-1) strokes. Zheng was one of just four players to record an eagle, carding a three on hole 13's par 5. Meanwhile, Chen amassed four birdies in the opening round. The last scorer for Cal was sophomore Aaron Du. He is currently tied for 69th with 80 (+8) strokes.
As a team, the Bears are tied for eighth after shooting a combined 292 (+4) strokes in the first round. Cal is currently tied with UCF and is 15 strokes back of Arizona State in first place.
The Bears will be back in action for the second of three rounds on Monday. They will tee off at 8am ET and will be paired with players from UCF (T8th) and LSU (7th). Live stats can be found stats here.
