Overbeck Wins Consolation Final As ITA Regionals End

MORAGA, Calif. – Cal men's tennis freshman Carl Emil Overbeck captured the singles consolation title as the ITA Northwest Regional Championships came to a close on Sunday at Saint Mary's. Golden Bear senior Philip Hjorth qualified for the upcoming ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships after reaching the regional main draw singles quarterfinals on Saturday at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
 
In Sunday's consolation final, Overbeck defeated Santa Clara's Ryan Ali, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Hjorth had already qualified for the ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships in doubles with Cal senior Yuta Kikuchi, who had also previously qualified for the singles draw. The University of Washington is hosting the event from Oct. 22-25 in Seattle.
