Manning Award Lauds Rising as a Star of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – University of Utah sophomore quarterback Cameron Rising has been named one of eight Stars of the Week by the Manning Award, announced on Monday morning. Through this Thursday at 10 a.m. MT, fans can vote for Rising as the top performer and the top vote recipient will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
 
Rising was clutch in Utah's second half comeback victory over No. 18 Arizona State, finishing the night 21-of-33 passing for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Rising additionally rushed himself six times for a career-high 59 yards (9.8 ypc) and another touchdown. He has produced rushing scores in consecutive games, the first Utes quarterback to do so since Tyler Huntley in 2019.
 
Trailing 21-7 at halftime, Rising and the Utes turned the tables in the final 30 minutes, as the Utah quarterback was 13-of-15 through the air for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Utah marched to the end zone on all four of its second half possessions, driving at least 67 yards downfield on each series with a long drive of 82 yards on 12 plays.
 
Led by Rising, Utah put up 455 yards of total offense, the most this season by an Arizona State opponent. The 35-21 victory, in front of a sellout crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium, was the first comeback triumph from two scores down for Utah vs. an AP-ranked foe since 2008.
 
ESPN currently ranks Rising atop the Pac-12 and No. 2 in the country this season in QBR (88.8). During Week 7, the Ventura, California, product was slotted 10th in QBR (91.4).
 
Utah (4-2, 3-0 Pac-12) continues conference play this Saturday, Oct. 23, when the squad travels to Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Networks.
