Cal senior Katherine Zhu will compete in Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying School this week at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Zhu advanced to Stage II by finishing in a tie for 85th place at Stage I of the Q-School in August. The top 95 and ties qualified for Stage II.
"I really don't have any expectations going in. It's more about going there and enjoying the moment, and gaining more experience," Zhu said. "This week will definitely be tougher. A lot of them have already played professionally for a bit. It will be a great experience."
The four-day, 72-hole tournament begins Thursday and features 179 players. The top 45 and ties advance to the LPGA Q-Series from Nov. 29-Dec. 12 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama with 2022 LPGA Tour playing status on the line. Players who complete all four rounds and don't advance earn an automatic berth on the 2022 Symetra Tour.
"We are super excited for her," Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "We're looking forward to having her bring back some good stories and information because it's a relatable event for many of the players on our team who want to do the same thing."
Stage II will be played on the Bobcat and Panther Courses at the Plantation Golf and Country Club. Zhu is scheduled to tee off Thursday at 9:10 a.m. PT on the Bobcat Course.
