SEATTLE -- The Huskies are set for a big weekend in the Bay Area starting tomorrow, Oct. 22, as the ITA Northwest Regionals run all the way to Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center. Washington sends a full roster of ten to the tournament, which is used as a qualifier for the ITA National Fall Championships.
The Northwest Region includes a broad swatch of teams from up and down the West Coast, including the northern half of the Pac-12: Washington, Stanford, Washington State, Oregon, and California.
The main draw for singles is a huge one, with 128 players in the field. Senior Vanessa Wong is the No. 1 seed and opens on Friday at 2 p.m. against Santa Clara's Giulia Hayer. Sarah-Maude Fortin is seeded No. 9, and Nika Zupancic is the No. 16 seed. Also in the main draw will be Zoey Weil, Tara Chilton, Hikaru Sato, and Astrid Olsen.
The 64-team doubles bracket will include Husky tandems of Sato/Zupancic, Fortin/Chilton, Weil/Chang, and the No. 2 overall seeds, Wong/Olsen. Doubles play starts things off early on Friday morning.
Additionally, invitational singles and doubles draws will be contested. Singles is also set to include Ashley Chang, Yolanda Lin, and Kelly Leung, with Chang as the No. 1 seed in that bracket, Leung seeded No. 2 and Lin No. 3. Doubles will have Lin and Leung as the top seed.
