Olivia Athens and Kennedy Faulknor celebrate with goal-scorer Reilyn Turner

Seattle, Wash. - Eighth-ranked UCLA used two first-half goals and a big performance in goal by senior Lauren Brzykcy to defeat Washington, 3-1, in rainy Seattle. Junior forward Mia Fishel scored two goals, and Brzykcy was a brick wall, making eight saves to keep UCLA unbeaten at 13-0-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the Pac-12.

Reilyn Turner started the scoring with a skillful goal in the 12th minute. After receiving a pass from Dasia Torbert, Fishel fed Turner in the box. Turner made a slick run to get around her defender and then quickly fired a sharp-angled shot top shelf for her ninth goal of the year.

Fishel doubled the Bruins' lead in the 31st minute on a penalty kick after Washington was called for a handball in the box. She easily converted for her 10th goal of the season.

Brzycky, meanwhile, was making gargantuan saves against the Huskies, who outshot the Bruins, 18-11 in the game. Summer Yates was particularly dangerous for the Huskies, and her free kick in the 29th minute could have changed the course of the game as an equalizer for Washington, but Brzykcy leaped up to deflect the shot, and two minutes later, Fishel scored on the penalty kick to go up 2-0.

The Huskies kept pushing offensively in the second half and nearly scored several times, but once again Brzykcy was up to the task, making impressive saves on Yates in the 62nd minute and Ruby Hellstrom in the 63rd and 69th minutes. Washington did finally break through, however, in the 75th minute on a set piece goal, with Olivia Van Der Jagt scoring off the corner kick to cut UCLA's lead in half.

But Fishel answered right back two minutes later, taking an exceptional cross from Kaila Novak and volleying it past goalkeeper Olivia Sekany at the right post for her second goal of the game.

The Bruins, whose unbeaten streak now stands at 22 games, gained two points in the Pac-12 standings with the victory, as first-place USC tied at Washington State. UCLA will face the Cougars next in Pullman on Sunday at 5pm.
