Charlton and Vandecasteele Advance in ITA Super Regional; Vandecasteele Plays on in Singles
SEATTLE – The men's tennis doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele advanced to the second round of the main draw in the ITA Northwest Super Regional this weekend, while Vandecasteele battled his way to a spot in the quarterfinals of the singles draw.
The No. 1 ranked pair in the tournament dominated in their first match, defeating Portland (Hibi and Yoshida) 8-1. The round of eight will take place at 3:30 p.m. PT on Saturday when the Ducks will face Basing and Sah from Seattle.
Including his doubles match, Vandecasteele went 3-0 on the day, with a pair of singles wins this morning. He defeated Han-Chih Lin (Washington) 6-4, 7-5 and advanced to the quarterfinal with a pair of 6-4 wins over Seattle's Timothy Sah. Vandecasteele will play Clement Chidekh (Washington) at 11:30 a.m. PT on Saturday.
The Super Regional, hosted by Washington and taking place Oct. 22-25 is comprised of players that automatically qualified based on their region rankings, as well as players that reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Fall Northwest Regionals last week at the Student Tennis Center. The singles and doubles finalists will qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships taking place Nov. 4-7.
