Arizona Wraps Up Southwest Regionals
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Wildcats finish a solid weekend of performances at the ITA Southwest Regionals with multiple Wildcats earning impressive wins. Arizona finished 14-11 overall in singles play with a 2-4 doubles record.
Senior Kayla Wilkins led the way for the Wildcats as she lead the team in singles and doubles wins during the tournament. Wilkins earned a huge win over No. 99 Elizaveta Volodko in the first round before making her way to the Round of 32.
Several freshman made an impact during the tournament with three of the four freshman finished the tournament with winning records. Although Parker Fry, Midori Castillo-Meza, and Belen Nevenhoven dropped their first singles matches of the tournament, they combined for 6-0 in their remaining matches.
Transfers Salma Ziouti and Alexa Ryngler both captured first round wins before Ryngler had to retire with an injury. Ziouti finished with two singles wins and a doubles win with her only singles losses coming against two ranked opponents, including No. 13 Victoria Flores.
