Erin Richardson won a doubles round of 16 match on Sunday at ITA regionals.

STANFORD, Calif. – The California women's tennis team had one doubles team advance on Sunday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, with Jessica Alsola and Erin Richardson defeating a Cardinal duo

The third-seeded Cal pair beat Stanford's Valencia Xu and Sara Choy, 6-2, in the round of 16 to advance to Monday's quarterfinals. But the Bears' Makenna Thiel and Hannah Viller Moeller fell in the round of 16 to Jordan Harris and Julia Ronney of Saint Mary's, 6-2.

Due to inclement weather in the San Francisco Bay Area, doubles matches were played inside at the Taube Family Tennis Center, and no singles matches were played on Sunday at regionals.

On Monday, Richardson and Alsola play Yana Gurevich and Arianna Stavropoulos of UC Davis at 11 a.m. in the doubles quarterfinals. Also on Monday, Alsola takes on Stanford's sixth-seeded and 87th-ranked Angelica Blake in a singles quarterfinal that will begin after the doubles quarterfinal round ends.
