MALIBU, Calif. - The Wildcats finish the weekend of the ITA Southwest Regionals with several statement wins, including sophomore Herman Hoeyeraal advancing to the quarterfinals with multiple wins over higher seeded opponents. Seven Wildcats brought home first round victories with five of them won multiple matches.
Hoeyeraal finished the tournament with a 4-1 singles record, including a ranked win over UCLA's No. 118 Drew Baird. With his partner Jonas Ziverts, Hoeyeraal had a 1-1 doubles record at regionals. The sophomore's seven fall wins is now tied for the team lead in singles wins with Colton Smith. No. 32 Ziverts collected his first singles win of the season and finished the tournament with a 2-1 singles record after advancing to the Round of 16.
After a tough three set loss in the opening round of singles, sophomore Jett Middleton rattled off four straight wins in the consolation bracket to place to bring his tournament record to 4-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play. Senior Filip Malbasic won his first two rounds of the tournament along with freshman Colton Smith.
