STANFORD, Calif. -- Husky freshman Kelly Leung continued her unblemished first fall today with a victory in the singles invitational draw at ITA Northwest Regionals at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center. Vanessa Wong and Sarah-Maude Fortin both had their main draw runs come to a close in the quarterfinals.
Leung, the native of Hong Kong, won four straight matches over the weekend and into Monday, all in straight sets, to win the invite singles bracket. She had also already claimed the doubles invite teaming with Yolanda Lin. Today in the singles final, Leung handled Hana Gamracy of San Francisco, 6-3, 6-3.
Leung also went 3-0 in singles play at the Husky Invite, getting her off to a 7-0 start in singles play.
In the main draw, Wong had a tight 6-4, 7-6 (3) loss to fifth-seeded Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford, while Fortin was unable to gain traction against the No. 3 seed and 57th-ranked singles player, Mariia Kozyreva of Saint Mary's, falling 6-1, 6-1.
