Oct 26, 2021

ATLANTA – Arizona Women's Golf earned match play points from Ya Chun Chang and Lilas Pinthier in Tuesday's action at the East Lake Cup before dropping its first match of the tournament to Oklahoma State by a 3-2 score. The Wildcats mounted a comeback after the turn as Caitlin Whitehead forced a 19th hole in her match against Isabella Fierro.

"I was proud of how all five of our players competed in our first round of match play this season," said head coach Laura Ianello. "This was a majority of our lineup's first-ever collegiate match play round, and I thought our young ladies played some really good golf. I believe we will do the same in Wednesday's final day of action at this tremendous event."

Ya Chun Chang won the day's first point by downing Caley McGinty 5 & 4 after besting her Oklahoma State opponent on the 11th, 13th and 14th holes. Freshman Lilas Pinthier defeated Rina Tatematsu who won the stroke play competition on the opening day.

Arizona will face Ole Miss in Wednesday's match play in a rematch of the semifinals of the 2021 NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cats will tee off at 7:05 a.m. (MST) with Golf Channel coverage beginning at 12 p.m. (MST).
