MVB Schedule Released; SAC Invite on Nov. 12-13
Coach John Speraw and staff announced the 2021-22 men's volleyball schedule this afternoon. The Bruins, ranked sixth in the final AVCA Coaches Poll at the conclusion of the 2021 season, will host the annual Fall SAC Tournament on November 12-13 where the Bruins will battle the likes of UC Santa Barbara, USC, CSUN and Trinity Western University from Canada.
The Bruins will be featured on the Pac-12 Network six times in the coming regular season. The first appearance on the Network will be on January 21 at 5 p.m. from Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom against Ohio State. That match is part of the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge hosted by UCLA. USC and Penn State will also be in the tournament. Home matches in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom against UC Irvine, on February 5 at 6 p.m., and Pepperdine, on April 9 at 6 p.m., are also slated for broadcast. Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) away contests at Stanford, on March 12 at 6 p.m., and at USC, on March 31 at 7 p.m., will be aired.
In addition to the always tough Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) contests, the 2022 UCLA men's volleyball regular season slate features non-conference matches against five Big West Conference squads, including Long Beach State and UC San Diego, battles with a pair of past National Championship teams from the Midwestern Collegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) in Ohio State and Penn State, along with a contest versus Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) power Princeton. The Bruins will travel in March to Atlanta to take on the newly instituted programs at Morehouse College and Fort Valley State.
UCLA opens the season with a road trip to play in the UC Santa Barbara Asics Tournament where it will square off with the host school on January 6, UC San Diego on January 7 and CSUN on January 8. The non-conference home schedule is highlighted by matches against 2021 NCAA Tournament participants Princeton, on January 15, Penn State, in the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge, on January 22, and Lewis on January 29. The Bruins also welcome CSUN on January 27, UC Irvine on February 5 and Long Beach State on February19. UCLA opens the MPSF season with a February 23 match versus Concordia. USC comes to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on April 2 followed by Pepperdine on April 9. The Bruins conclude the regular season with a pair of matches on the road in Provo,Utah against 2021 MPSF champion BYU on April 15 and 16.
The MPSF post-season tournament, which will be streamed by flosports.com, will be held at the site of the top-seeded team and begins on April 20 with quarterfinal matches. The league semifinals and finals will be contested on April 21 and 23. The NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship once again comes to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom with the semifinals set for May 5 and the championship match on May 7.
