Stanford Sweep
STANFORD, Calif. - For the third consecutive season, Stanford swept both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
The Cardinal featured both sets of opponents in both the singles and doubles championships - the first school to do so since at least 2003.
Hosting the event at Taube Family Tennis Stadium for the 14th straight time, a pair of freshmen burst on the scene for the Cardinal, as Connie Ma defeated fellow rookie Alexandra Yepifanova in singles, before teaming up with Angelica Blake to take down Yepifanova and Niluka Madurawe in doubles.
Ma never gave up more than four games in any set in her seven victories, defeating one ranked opponent en route to the trophy.
Stanford has produced the tournament singles champion in 10 of the last 11 years: Connie Ma (2021), Michaela Gordon (2019, 2018, 2017), Taylor Davidson (2015), Carol Zhao (2014), Kristie Ahn (2013, 2010), Krista Hardebeck (2012) and Nicole Gibbs (2011).
It is the second straight regional doubles crown for Blake, who last won in 2019 with Emily Arbuthnott.
Ma, Yepifanova, Madurawe and Blake will all advance to the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego from Nov. 4-7.
