Bruins Set to Host Washington St. in Pac-12 Opener
The UCLA swim and dive team returns to Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday, Oct. 30 to host a dual meet for the second consecutive weekend, welcoming in Pac-12 rival Washington State for a competition starting at 11:00 a.m. PT.
Like all UCLA swim and dive home events, entry to the meet is admission-free and open to the public. Saturday's meet will not feature diving.
The competition marks the Bruins' second and final home event of the fall, as the team will not compete at Spieker again until Jan. 8.
UCLA owns a 12-1 all-time record in dual meets against WSU, including a 145-109 win in Pullman in the most-recent head-to-head matchup between the two schools (Jan. 11, 2020). The Cougars are making their first visit to the Westwood since Oct. 28, 2017 (UCLA won, 152-104).
The Bruins (1-0) logged a 167-92 win over UC Santa Barbara last Saturday in the first dual meet of the season for both teams. UCLA won 11 of the 14 scheduled events, and nine different swimmers recorded individual wins. Junior Brooke Schaffer led the Bruins with a win in the 100 free and a pair of top relay finishes, while freshmen Eva Carlson (100 breast), Mia Chang (100 back), and Ana Jih-Schiff (200 breast) all notched their first-ever collegiate event wins.
Washington State meanwhile is 2-1 in dual meets on the year, capturing wins over Idaho and Arizona but falling to No. 22 Arizona State.
UCLA and WSU have met previously this year, as both teams swam at the Chick-fil-A Invite hosted by Fresno State from Oct. 8-9. The Bruins finished third at that meet despite not entering any divers into the competition, while the Cougars were fifth.
