Cal-UW Game Declared No Contest In Seattle

Oct 28, 2021
Jack Singer and the Bears played through steady rain in Seattle before the game was called.

SEATTLE – The California men's soccer team was battling fourth-ranked Washington in a 1-1 tie through a downpour at Husky Soccer Stadium, when officials stopped the game in the 61st minute and, after meeting with both sets of coaches, declared a no contest due to field conditions and concern for player safety.

Gio Miglietti had given Washington a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, and Cal's Dylan Penn, a senior forward, had scored the equalizer with what was his first career goal in the 36th minute, as rain fell steadily throughout the night.

But since the game did not reach the 70th-minute mark, all the statistics were nullified. For the second straight time – including the scheduled Oct. 24 game vs. San Diego State in Berkeley – bad weather wiped out a Cal game.

The Bears next play at third-ranked Oregon State on Oct. 31 in Corvallis, Oregon.
