Head Diving Coach Richard Marschner Named as Recipient of Don Reddish Award
SALT LAKE CITY— University of Utah Head Diving Coach and 2021 Pac-12 Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Richard Marschner, has been selected as the recipient of the Don Reddish Award for his success during the 2021 diving season.
"I'm humbled and also extremely excited to be the recipient of the Don Reddish Award. Don led the Swim & Dive team for many years at such a high level and it's a thrill to be associated with him and his accomplishments as a coach" said Marschner.
The Don Reddish Award is presented annually to a coach of an Olympic Sport who is deemed to have had the most successful season under their leadership.
"To me, this award is about the incredible achievements of the divers that I have the privilege to coach every day. The team is the reason for the award and I want to make sure they get the credit they deserve for being the top diving team in the Pac-12 last year. We're looking forward to doing great things again this season and I can't wait to get started."
The 2021 season was arguably one of the best in program history and at the Pac-12 Championships history was made. The men notched their highest point total in school history (133) to earn first while the women finished in second place totaling their highest score (225) and crushing their previous by 80 points. Combined, both the men and women were team diving champions.
Redshirt Junior Luke McDivitt, became the first Pac-12 Diving Champion in school history posting a school-record score (400.75) on the platform. McDivitt was the NCAA Zone E runner-up and earned the program's first-ever platform first-team All-America citation by capturing eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Under Marschner's guidance, four divers earned NCAA Championship berths, marking the most in a single season for Utah.
Marschner enters his 12th season as the head diving coach for the Utes and will be recognized for his success at halftime of the home Utah football game this Saturday October 30th against UCLA.
