No Tricks, Only Treats: Hockey is Home for Halloween

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil Hockey (4-4-0) hosts first-year program, the St. Thomas Tommies (1-7-0), for a two-game series at Oceanside Ice Arena this Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30. Both puck drops are set for 7:05 p.m. MST on Pac-12 Insider. 

Arizona State closes out the month of October with Halloween Weekend games against St. Thomas - a program in its first year of NCAA Division I College Hockey. 

Last weekend, the Sun Devils traveled to Hamilton, New York, and split a series at Colgate. ASU collected the split with a thrilling overtime win that kept the Sun Devils at .500 on the season. 

Josh Doan enjoyed a huge weekend in Upstate NY, netting three goals to lead all NCAA freshmen in point scoring. He scored his first collegiate goal at Denver on October 9. Three of his four goals are on the power play. 

Sophomore Matthew Kopperud leads the nation in scoring (15), goals (7), and power play goals (6) while riding the wave of a three-game scoring streak. Kopperud tallied points on the score sheet in all but one game so far this season. 

Three of ASU's four leading point scorers - Kopperud, Doan, and Tim Lovell are underclassmen. Graduate Colin Theisen ranks third in scoring with 10 points (2G, 8A).

In net, Ben Kraws and Cole Brady shared the role last weekend. Brady started on Friday night and played 40 minutes before Kraws entered the game. The Miami transfer earned the start on Saturday and finished with 29 saves and three goals against to improve his season record to 2-1-0. 


  • ASU has scored at least two goals in every game this season and totals 30 goals through eight games - second most in the country. 
  • Sophomore MATTHEW KOPPERUD leads the nation in three categories: total points (15), goals (7), and power play goals (6)
  • Sophomore TIM LOVELL'S nine total points are second-most for all defensemen in the nation. He's notched two goals and seven assists through eight games played.
  • Sun Devils made 38 shots on goal in both games at Colgate last weekend, the highest SOG this year for ASU who averages 28.0 SOG per game. 
  • JOSH DOAN leads all NCAA Division I freshmen in total points with 12 through eight games. The rookie tallied four goals and eight assists, including three PPG. 
  • ASU boasts the 2nd highest power play percentage in the nation with 39.5, behind only No. 1 St. Cloud State.  
  • Offensive Power: In each game so far this season, ASU has scored at least two goals. The team's 30 goals tie for 2nd in the country.  
  • DOAN flipped the switch last weekend from assist king to goal-scorer. The freshman notched three goals at Colgate to improve to four goals this season.
  • JORDAN SANDHU played in his 100th NCAA game on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Colgate.
