LOS ANGELES — USC junior Ryder Jackson found vengeance in this year's Southern California Intercollegiates singles final, claiming the crown with a straight-set win in today's title match. As a freshman, Jackson had been edged out in the 2019 event final. This time, he was all business en route to the 2021 trophy, having dropped just a single set in his five singles wins this week.
The No. 2 seed in the singles draw, Jackson's toughest competitor came in the quarterfinals, where the USC junior staged a three-set comeback against No. 6 seed Stefan Leustian of UCLA. That propelled Jackson into the semis, through which he cruised past Portland's Issa Yoshida 6-0, 6-3 to earn a repeat trip to the title match. Today, Jackson squared off against UC Santa Barbara's Phillip Jordan on USC's home courts at Marks Stadium. Jackson was in control of this one, too, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win to claim the singles crown.
In his last appearance at the event, Jackson won the 2019 doubles title alongside Bradley Frye, while falling in the singles final. The SoCal Intercollegiates were not held last year.
