Starkute Leads the Way For The Cats in Hawai'i
KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – Behind Gile Bite Starkute's opening round of 2-under par, Arizona Women's Golf finished the first day of the Pac-12 Preview in seventh place at 5-over par. The Wildcats are part of a pack of six teams separated by a total of seven strokes at the top of the leaderboard.
"Gile lead us today with a really great round of golf on a challenging course," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We played well enough today to put us in the middle of a crowded pack near the top of the leaderboards, and I believe we will shoot even better scores tomorrow and move up the leaderboards."
Starkute's opening round of 71 put her in a tie for sixth place among all players after sinking an eagle on the 18th hole and then carding back-to-back birdies two holes later.
Yu-Sang Hou finished Monday with Arizona's second-lowest round with an even par round of 73, which put her in a tie for 11th place.
Arizona holds a sizable lead on the teams below them in the standings as they head into Tuesday's second round of the three-day tournament.
