KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – Tuesday's second round of the Pac-12 Preview proved to be moving day for Arizona Women's Golf as they climbed four spots up the team leaderboard to third place at 1-over par. The Wildcats shot 4-under on Tuesday, which was the lowest team score in the field by three strokes. Junior Vivian Hou carded a 3-under round of 70 that included five consecutive birdies to end the round.
"Today's round was the payoff of two really good days of golf for us," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We moved up four spots and separated ourselves from yesterday's pack by a dozen strokes and did so by sinking 10 birdies after the turn. With four players in the top 20 now, our patience and resiliency have paid off. I am excited to see our young ladies continue their improvement and shoot low scores again tomorrow."
Junior Gile Bite Starkute, who posted a top-five score on day one, solidified her position among the top of leaderboard with another quality round. She sits in a tie for fifth at 3-under after the first two rounds.
Tuesday's strong rounds from Yu-Sang and Vivian Hou propelled both of them to a tie for 10th place at 2-over. With a round of 2-under on Tuesday, freshman Carolina Melgrati entered the top 20 after shaving seven strokes off her opening round.
Arizona tees off in the third and final round of the Pac-12 preview at 9:30 a.m. local time in Tucson just three strokes behind second-place USC and six strokes behind Stanford who leads the tournament at 5-under through the first two rounds.
